This adaptation of a young adult novel about alien invasions was the 2nd of 3 worst new films of the week on January 22. These are the reasons it stands out as a RAZZIE contender:
*Chloe Grace Moretz didn't have much to work with, and even with a better performance from her, the film would've still suffered from shallowness when they focused on her male co-star taking his shirt off and lathering in a hot spring while his warrior's build was shown off to buy the film some lust-washed praise.
*The 5th Wave was seen as a stepping stone to its film sequels. Very little of substance happens in this snoozefest! It's also seen as knocking off Stephanie Meyer's The Host, along with countless other young adult and alien conflict film adaptations.
*Reviews were horrific: 17% at Rotten Tomatoes and 33% at Metacritic. It also got a T-Minus One Day score from Jeremy Jahns, a D Plus from Chris Stuckmann, and a mean average of 2.233 schmoes at SchmoesKnow.
*As would soon be the case plenty of times this winter, the special effects were freakishly low-quality and outdated.
*Producer Tobey Maguire previously produced Worst Actor finalist Seeking Justice. Director J Blakeson may or may not have much of a film career ahead of him.

1) And the consensus reads: "With unimpressive effects and plot points seemingly pieced together from previous dystopian YA sci-fi films, the film ends up feeling like more of a limp, derivative wriggle."
2) And here's his review. 3) Huh?
