This sequel to Gerard Butler's completely average 2013 hit Olympus Has Fallen was the worst new film of the week on March 4. These are the biggest reasons it deserves consideration from us for the Worst of 2016 RAZZIE awards:
*Many films that got negative reviews this past winter had bad graphics, whether by bad design or bad resolution. The camera quality was so bad, people said it was only fit for 1995... and a made-for-TV movie from '995 at that!
*It has great odds of making it to the Worst Actor finals when it gets bundled with Gods of Egypt, released the very previous weekend, for Gerard Butler.
*Other major cast members include Aaron Eckhart, Morgan Freeman, and Angela Bassett. The critics took pity on the talented cast and how the film squandered it.
*It got generally negative reviews from critics, including a 24% Tomatometer approval rating and a 28% Metascore. Such a low score on Metacritic is much rarer. Many critics who value foreign cultures saw London Has Fallen as xenophobic, and yet more critics dismissed it as nothing but agency thriller cliches.
*Domestic box office numbers hardly broke even. Next to all the net profit came from the foreign markets. Studios prioritize domestic over planetary, which means they will NOT see London Has Fallen as a commercial success.
I just saw it. For your consideration:
-Worst Prequel or Sequel.
Oh, and MAYBE Worst Actor for Gerard Butler (also for GODS OF EGYPT). But NOT Worst Screen Combo for Butler and Aaron Eckhart.
